Living with Type 1

Since it is most common for Type 1 diabetes to be diagnosed in teenagers, Zinc developed accessible, inclusive, Type 1 focused educational resources to support these young people and their parents and teachers.
Both ‘Living with Type 1’ and ‘Type 1 Teen’ were developed to support the management and awareness of Type 1 diabetes in schools. Thorough research was undertaken, we consulted a range of stakeholders including parents, school nurses, paediatric diabetes nurses and young patients through JDRF’s Youth Network.

Relatable resources

Zinc designed and created a PowerPoint presentation deck, lesson plan support and a series of short film clips.
The films portrayed the experiences of day-to-day school life for a young person living with Type 1 to use as support material in lessons, within the context of Science, PSHE and Literacy.
Finally, we produced parent information leaflets to dispel some of the common myths.
