Spencer – the bear that cares

As part of the Marks & Spencer strategy to reassert its position as a leading socially responsible business, the Spencer Bear Big Book Bag, one of the most successful Marks & Spencer education programmes run to date, was launched.

The aim of the programme was to help children to develop emotionally and socially and shows how to face challenging issues such as starting school, making friends, bullying, moving to a new town, road safety and getting lost.

Free to schools

Thousands of primary schools across the UK received this free resource to support literacy and citizenship lessons for 5-7 year olds. The project was also supported by the National Literacy Trust & endorsed by many safety organisations and educational specialists.

Children loved Spencer Bear and teachers appreciated the valuable lessons in the books on coping with change, personal safety, learning to co-operate and personal responsibility.
